Despite heavy rains throughout the entire day, Pentwater was still able to have its homecoming parade Saturday evening. The parade scheduled for 4 p.m. began rolling down Hancock Street a little before 5:30 with a crowd of dedicated Pentwater lovers lining both sides of the road.

With kids bundled in hoodies and rain ponchos and adults huddling under umbrellas and awnings, Pentwater police and fire, along with area officials, clubs and more came marching down the street tossing candy and waving.

Amy LaBarge and Ron Beeber, the Pentwater Citizens of the Year, walked together behind a red minivan, waving to the crowd while donned in coats and boots.

Nick Baumgartner, Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding and Pentwater’s special guest, was particularly enthusiastic as he sat high in a yellow Mustang and took a video of the crowd. Baumgartner was especially hopeful the parade would not get rained out, as he was crossing his fingers and telling everyone to “keep positive” as he left his event at the Pentwater Township Library earlier that day.

While the parade was short and some floats did opt out due to the weather, the annual event still received a good turnout both in participants and crowd members who gathered to celebrate the small village and its history.
